1. Pregnancy-A woman’s blood volume needs to expand by 50% during pregnancy to perfuse her placenta at term.  This can deplete a person’s iron stores. Iron supplements are often necessary in pregnancy. Anemia can make pregnancy and postpartum especially uncomfortable because it increases fatigue, and can cause shortness of breath, and headache. 
2. Childbirth-a certain amount of blood loss is normal in a birth but if a person loses more than normal or starts labor already anemic and then loses any amount of blood, she may be symptomatic of anemia postpartum
3. Menstrual cycle - heavy frequent periods can cause anemia
