Midwives of New Jersey recommend Inositol supplements to clients with Polycystic Ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and clients with current and previous Gestational diabetes. Consult with your healthcare provider to determine if inositol is recommended for you.
If you find it hard to stay calm and relaxed—even when nothing is going wrong in your life—you may have an inositol deficiency. Inositol is a B-complex vitamin your body produces by breaking down glucose. You can also get the vitamin through your diet by eating beans‚ fresh fruits like oranges and cantaloupes‚ and whole grains. However‚ it can be inconvenient to eat a balanced diet; as a result‚ your body may not make enough of the vitamins for optimal health. Some people who have mood or behavioral disorders have low inositol levels.
Inositol helps reduce insulin resistance and lowers fasting and postprandial glucose levels.
We recommend 4-6 grams of Inositol daily in divided doses to our patients with Gestational Diabetes.
